Why recycle?

Did you know that two thirds of all of the rubbish that we throw away could be recycled? And that recycling all kinds of household waste on Merseyside is getting easier with improved kerbside collections and the opening of new Recycling Centres?

Our message couldn’t be clearer – you can recycle easily no matter how much time you’ve got.

The current way of disposing of waste in landfill can’t continue – it has environmental issues as well as hitting the tax payer with costly fines.

Merseyside and Halton produces around 600,000 tonnes of household waste a year. Of this around 40% is recycled, meaning over 300,000 tonnes of waste in Merseyside and Halton goes to landfill.

Recycling turns materials that would otherwise become waste into valuable resources. In addition, it generates a host of environmental, financial and social benefits. Materials like glass, metal, plastics and paper are collected, separated and sent to facilities that can process them into new materials or products.

Recycle your waste by using the kerbside recycling bins, bags or boxes your local council provides, recycle them in one of your local bring banks or by taking your materials for recycling to one of 16 Household Waste Recycling Centres across Merseyside and Halton.
