Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority (MWDA) and its contractor Veolia Environmental Services will be providing special skips at their Wirral Recycling Centres at Bidston, Clatterbridge and West Kirby for dry recyclable materials (ie. the contents of the Wirral Council grey bin) over the Christmas and New Year period.
Alex Murray, MWDA Assistant Director of Operations said: "We’re working with our colleagues at Wirral Council and Veolia to provide this extra service at this busy time of the year.
“The recent winter weather has provided some challenges for collection crews and by providing these skips we hope to alleviate some of the potential build up of recyclable materials.
“We’d like to remind residents using the skips to try ensure that their dry recyclables are loose and not contained in plastic bags.”
Alex Paterson, Director of Veolia Environmental Services Merseyside & Halton, said: ”We hope by introducing this service with the Merseyside Waste Authority we can provide extra capacity for dry recyclables for residents whose bins will be close to capacity as a result of missing collections due to bad weather and the extra packaging inevitably produced at this time of year."
Cllr Gill Gardiner, Wirral’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “We would like to thank MWDA and Veolia Environmental Services for providing this additional collection facility, which will help ease some of the pressure on the collection of recyclables, especially at this time of year.”
