Please note the Make 28 Taste Great competition has now ended
Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA) launched the Make 28 Taste Great recipe competition for Merseyside and Halton residents in 2013.
‘Make 28 Taste Great’ was in response to the fact that 28% of waste in Merseyside and Halton is food waste and as much as £60 a month can be saved by using leftovers more effectively and by smarter, local shopping.
We were looking for ways to use leftovers in recipes which are healthy hearty meals, using ingredients easily at hand. Maybe a recipe passed down by your Mum or something you’ve invented with the contents of your fridge and store cupboard one night! It all helps to reduce waste and save money!
Widnes born celebrity chef Brian Mellor helped judge and support the shortlisted entries who were invited to cook for him at a ‘cook-off’ in August at Liverpool Community College’s restaurant, The Academy.
The 12 shortlisted dishes were judged at the cook-off to decide the winning six ‘signature’ recipe cards. There were further prizes for the six winners announced at that year’s Liverpool Food and Drink Festival.
