New Park, Donate and Ride textile recycling campaign for Merseyside commuters

From Monday 16th February until Friday 20th February 2015, commuters using the Southport Eco Centre Park and Ride service will be able to take part in a new and innovative textile recycling campaign.

The campaign – called Park, Donate and Ride – is the first of its kind in Merseyside and will help local charities to access some of the 55,000 tonnes of clothes and accessories that are currently sent to landfill each year in Merseyside.

During the trial week, commuters will be invited to use the dedicated donation station (located within the main building at the Eco Centre) to donate any unwanted clothes and accessories. All donations will be distributed across local partners who will then resell the donations in a number of charity shops across Southport and Merseyside.

Donating your unwanted clothes and accessories help to:

  • Reduce our reliance on landfill
  • Increase C02 savings
  • Supports local charities across Merseyside

During the campaign week, the Eco Centre will be hosting a “Dr Who Journey through Time and Waste event”, on Tuesday 17th February. Back by popular demand, the Dr Who themed day will offer visitors the chance to meet some of the campaign partners, learn more about clothes recycling, take part in workshops and visit the TARDIS!

Park, Donate & Ride has been funded through the Merseyside Textile Forum – a voluntary group dedicated to increasing textile re-use and recycling across Merseyside. Members of the forum include; the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority, Merseyside District Authorities and clothes reuse charities.

Five charities are taking part in the Park, Donate and Ride campaign including: Queenscourt Hospice, The Salvation Army, Scope, British Heart Foundation and Marie Curie Cancer care.
